The main objective of International Collaboration and Promotion of TELDAP is to promote the
internationalization, enhance global awareness of TELDAP and establish an international cooperation network.
Through the promotion of TELDAP, we not only present Taiwan’s cultural and biological diversity to the world,
but also enhance global awareness of Taiwan’s beauty and highlight Taiwan’s unique experience. Based on the
main objective, we set up four sub-goals and further formed five sub-projects to accomplish the purpose. The
sub-goals of this project are as follows:
1. To promote and showcase cultural and biological diversity of Taiwan to the world.
In order to integrate digitized thematic and unique resources from TELDAP and other non-NDAP projects from
various institutions, and further to promote Taiwan heritage worldwide, “Taiwan Digital Archives Multilingual
Development Project” and “Culture Portal of Digital Taiwan Project” have been established. “Taiwan Digital
Archives Multilingual Development Project” will translate these resources into different languages including
English, Japanese and Spanish within five years time. “Culture Portal of Digital Taiwan Project” will integrate
Taiwan’s digital resources and present it on the “Collection level” web portal: Digital Taiwan – Culture & Nature.
This portal serves as a window where users from all over the world can browse and check Taiwan’s digital
collections and offers visitors a convenient way to enjoy the Oriental experience and explore Taiwan’s
multicultural lives.
2. To collect Taiwanese archives that have been scattered overseas and further to facilitate international resource
sharing
Taiwan has been influenced by the culture of Holland, Spain, Japan and China for over 400 years. As the
unique background of Taiwan, there are a great deal of collections and archives of Taiwan deposited in foreign
countries. Therefore, “Digitization of Historic Museum Collections from Taiwan Deposited in Other Countries
Project” and “International Collaboration of Taiwan Cultural and Historical Resources Acquisition Project” have
been formed to serve the purpose of integration of Taiwan’s resources that ranging from biological specimens,
artifacts, rare books and historical maps. Through international collaborative network, these two sub-projects
acquire cultural, biological and historical resources scattered overseas and further establish database to
storage digital contents. This achievement is a joint effort put forth by sub-projects as well as institutional
projects that includes National Science Museum, National Palace Museum, National Taiwan University and
National Central Library.
3. To establish international collaborative network and share digital archives and e-learning experience with
global communities
The international promotion channels and strategies of the project are as follows:
(1)Continuing attending international conferences and exhibitions in order to present TELDAP’s achievements.
(2)Operating and participating in international organizations to deeply engage in global communities, for example, Museum Computer Network (MCN) and Culturemondo Network.
(3)Organizing international conferences to promote international interactions.
(4)Sharing e-learning achievements and development via digital learning platform and mechanism.
(5)Enhancing global awareness of TELDAP through Culture Portal of Digital Taiwan.
So as to establish international collaboration and communication platform between Taiwan and other nationals
by various mechanisms and to facilitate research on digital learning in Taiwan, “International Collaboration on e-
Learning Project” has been formed.
4. To build strategic partnerships with digitization project from other nations and to promote international
collaboration.
Through the international network, our project introduces the latest technology from European countries and
America in order to assist Taiwanese institutes with digital preservation and restoration of Taiwan’s artifacts.
For instance, Center for Visualization and Virtual Environments from University of Kentucky and Center for e-
Research from King’s College London are two of our collaborative partners now.
In summary, this program will enhance the development of the multilingual contents and demonstrate the
richness of the culture-diversity as well as biodiversity in Taiwan. Building an international network and
collaboration mechanism, based on the TDA contents with the help of the collaboration on e-learning, may not
only disseminate the achievement of TELDAP but also foster the growth of digital communities both in Asia and
the world.
