The main objective of the Taiwan Digital Archives Expansion Project is to “establish a digital
content showcase to display the various faces of Taiwan’s culture, society and natural
environment” for value-added use (education, business and research) within the project,
society and the international community.
We provide easy and ready access with the aim of increasing the number of digital archive
participants from various fields. This not only promotes the standardization of digitization
but also reduces digital archive set-up costs and, moreover, increases the added value and
influence of digital archives through cross-institutional collaboration. Digital content has
been requested from private bodies, participating departments and acquired under The
Digital Archives Open Request for Proposals Project. In fact, most of the project’s archiving
results in the fields of nature, archeology, language and writing, geography, ethnic culture,
history, economics and life come from these sources.
The artifact digitization work process and technology followed international standards and
also meets localization needs, making it a model for digitization in Taiwan and overseas. In
the future, the aim is to systematically integrate digital natural, cultural, and technological
resources and provide digital archive material in a variety of fields of knowledge,
encouraging the people of Taiwan to identify with our own culture and raising Taiwan’s
international profile.
